Overview

Leads a team of Database Engineers. Ensures the team safeguards the compliance of the database with the Digitizing & Attributing rules (for core map) or other appropriate database/product specs. Ensures that the database/product is consistent in terms of quality and content.

 

Ensures the team successfully operates as the principal point of contact for the database release process and acts as the liaison between RMC-Field, RMC-Product Management, Global Production Organization and other parts of the company during the release process. Ensures the team contributes to coverage and content expansion project within their area of responsibility.

 

Provides performance management and career development for subordinates.

Responsibilities

  • People management responsibilities for DBE staff including day-to-day resource and performance management, training, and development
  • Manages multi-national/multi-cultural teams in multiple locations (remote management)
  • Manages database/product release process and ensures on-time completion of weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly releases
  • Ensures team members lead or contribute to coverage and content expansion projects depending on project complexity
  • Manages one or more production regional databases (RMOBs) or content domains
  • Approves software upgrades, batch updates, and other critical jobs that are being run on the database as part of the daily operations schedule
  • Works as overall owner of production regional database (RMOBs) or content domains
  • Acts as primary contact person for database related questions for Technical Operations, Global Production Organization, Product & Release Planning and engineering teams
  • Maintains proficiency in all facets of the processes utilized in the maintenance, enhancement and creation of HERE databases including proficiency in database specifications, quality assurance and quality control
  • Provides expertise on specialized topics to colleagues
  • Contributes or leads analysis and resolution of quality issues reported through the ICE and CDF processes
  • Participates in leadership team of the regional organization or relevant content organization; attends and provides input to management team meetings
  • Participates and contributes to global or regional initiatives/programs to enable next generation products, tools, and processes (Operations Engineering function)

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Master degree in Geography, GIS, Cartography or related field
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant job experience plus 3 years of people management experience. Recognised expert in their field
  • Experience with internal map production toolset (ATLAS, AET, QT, EMT, MMT, TurboMap, data pipeline, MapCreator, comprehensive validation rules)
  • Additional experience with industry standard tools (SQL, ArcGIS, and others)
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and high time pressure
  • Ability to reach out and work with stakeholders to achieve targets and meet deadlines
  • Ability to function and self-motivate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), English fluency required
  • Strong people management skills
  • Advanced project management skills, ability to plan project activities and track progress against plan including resource allocation skills
  • Expert knowledge in Microsoft office applications
  • Domestic and International travel (up to 25%) required
