The Senior Accountant is responsible for reviewing, interpreting, and summarizing customer contracts in accordance with IFRS revenue recognition treatment and internal billing and pricing policies; analyzing and tracking royalty reports for accuracy in license fee calculations, timeliness, and consistency with contract terms; ensuring that SOX and operational controls related to revenue and invoicing are followed.

Responsibilities

Revenue/Billing

  • Review contracts and backup information for accuracy and correct IFRS accounting, preparing summaries to facilitate management review of critical contracts. Summaries should be a detailed assessment and highlight the key contract terms with accounting implications.
  • Create Sales Orders/Invoices in PeopleSoft for billable revenue
  • Maintain Billing Calendar through the life of contracts to track and initiate scheduled fees and to help ensure accounting transactions are properly accounted for
  • Assist in determining proper calculation and allocation of license fees
  • Mitigate risks to revenue by ensuring accurate and timely billing, following-up on late customer reports, validating pricing, and organizing documentation to support billing activities

Contract Management

  • Review and comprehend customer contracts to determine billing needs, pricing, licensing rights, customer and HERE deliverables
  • Maintain Royalty Tracking spreadsheets per customer for tracking, qualifying and reporting year to date and monthly license activity
  • Maintain customer files with contracts, royalty reports, invoices, and supporting documentation
  • Maintain and disburse key customer contract information (i.e. expiration dates, automatic renewals, data deliverables, royalties reported versus minimums paid etc.) as needed to the relevant parties
  • Proactively communicate with Sales and LBO to ensure new products are in adherence with the pricing per the agreement
  • Collect License/Royalty Reports from customers and follow-up and manage escalation process on late reports, communicating reporting/revenue issues with the appropriate groups (Sales, Accounting, Legal, etc.).

General Tasks

  • Prepare Journal entries as required and assist in the month-end close process
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations as required
  • Assist cost team with commissions, calculations, royalties, and probe data (check requests)
  • Assist external/internal auditors with quarterly reviews and year-end audit
  • Adhere to SOX compliance and controls
  • Other duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3+ years of accounting experience (revenue recognition experience desirable)
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • PeopleSoft experience preferred
  • CPA or CPA candidate desirable
  • Well organized individual who consistently and proactively follows-up on open issues
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills with the ability to express thoughts concisely and cohesively as well as the ability to express an unpopular opinion when needed
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Quality driven individual
