About the Team:

 

The Routing team aims at providing the best possible directions to drivers, pedestrians and public transit users. We've been developing cutting-edge routing solutions as well as web services used by millions of users around the world through

  • smartphone apps such as HERE Drive and HERE Maps,
  • web sites like here.com (feel free to give it a try!),
  • integrated solutions in the automotive context.

In order to scale up our response to an energizingly increasing demand, we're now looking for a new teammate (permanent & collocated) who will bring his experience and skills to our exciting project within a competent, cross-functional, multicultural (10+ nationalities), passionate and self-organized team.

 

As a Software Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to work on one of the most versatile route calculation engines, capable of both running on low-end devices and taking advantage of high-end cloud computing virtual machines. You'll contribute to a wide range of features impacting routing graph preparation, core routing algorithms, maneuver/instruction generation, road traffic update, REST and native APIs, etc.

 

Responsibilities

In an Agile context, you'll share the duties of your teammates:

  • elaboration of user stories, (including initial estimation & acceptance criteria)
  • writing executable acceptance tests, (specification by example)
  • writing unit tests,
  • writing performance tests/benchmarks where applicable,
  • development of new features per se, (refining acceptance criteria)
  • maintenance and refactoring of existing code,
  • sharing progress and impediments (daily stand-up meeting) and addressing them with your teammates,
  • participating to team ceremonies, (review/demo, retrospective, planning)
  • taking part in the development infrastructure, (build, testing, continuous integration, etc.)
  • taking part in the architecture, (e.g. quick design sessions, reconsidering past choices...)
  • taking part in the transformational effort, (applied research, experimental development, spikes, exploratory testing)
  • contributing to the documentation, (deliverables, team's wiki)
  • helping select your next teammates.

Qualifications

In addition to the mastery of the C++11 programming language, we would like you to have most of:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics,
  • a former experience working in an Agile team,
  • a strong level in algorithm engineering,
  • Knowledge or experience in C++11 programming language,
  • an effective practice of the Standard Template Library,
  • a SOLID practice of object-oriented programming,
  • a sincere motivation for keeping things simple,
  • a paid attention to software craftsmanship,
  • comfort in developing cross-platform and addressing portability issues,
  • comfort with threading and IPC,
  • a former experience with RESTful web services,
  • comfort with GNU/Linux system administration basics.

 The following would add extra value to your contribution in our team:

  • a former experience in route planning or related domain, (e.g. digital mapping, geographic information, transport networks)
  • capable of taking advantage of functional programming,
  • a good knowledge of Boost C++ libraries,
  • a PEP-8 compliant practice of the Python programming language that powers most of our development infrastructure,
  • knowledge of various C++ and/or Python test libs/toolkit
