The Highly Automated Driving (HAD) group is combining decades of map building experience with innovative technologies to create high definition map data that will support driverless vehicles.  Our team’s success depends on having efficient engineering and product development coupled with tightly integrated systems from research to production.

We are looking for an experienced Manager Systems Engineering to drive product development and engineering alongside business and operational requirements for new features or enhancements to existing systems.

The Fleet Support Team (FST) is responsible for engineering, deploying, installing, and maintaining cutting edge hardware and software systems for map capture globally.  This includes, Global Positioning Systems, inertial motion measurement hardware and software, HD still and video imaging hardware, in-vehicle compute systems and Map Routing and Editing Software and the electrical systems that power it all.

Fleet Support Systems Engineers work with their peers in hardware, software and mechanical engineering to integrate, test and maintain HERE’s core mapping infrastructure including all hardware, and software for capturing and ingesting map data.  Fleet Support Systems Engineers are solely responsible for developing, integrating and deploying single, multi-camera and map data capturing systems (non-LiDAR) that are required to be deployed where HERE True systems cannot be deployed due to legal restrictions.  They work with business and product owners to analyze technology needs; research, evaluate and recommend solutions.  They resolve field problems remotely and/or on-site; and work with vendors on integration issues and performance improvements.  They participate in research and development activities for developing, integrating and deploying new technologies; and directly assist the broader R&D teams on continuous systemic improvements.

    What's the role?

    • Research and development for leading edge mapping capture systems including development of hardware and software, developing system capability improvements, product integration and deployment as well as helping establish user and operational requirements.
    • Working directly with peer engineering teams concerning engineering design feasibility, sourcing, fabrication/assembly, installation, testing, maintenance and upgrading of HERE’s core mapping infrastructure world-wide.
    • Test and refine prototype hardware product, troubleshoot and maintain product system as needed; identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues, and support software and hardware testing globally.
    • Set-up and maintain bench testing and diagnostic instances of mapping system product to facilitate trouble shooting globally and work with peer engineering teams in troubleshooting issues.
    • Coordinate with external vendors of equipment and services on systems integration and debugging hardware and software.  As well as work with external suppliers and the purchasing department to ensure that parts and supplies are in stock and available for integration during hardware production builds and software bring-up.
    • Work with other departments to ensure smooth repair, enhancement, and deployment of products with minimal impact on day-to-day operations in accordance with uptime requirements for the entire team.
    • Provide training on systems to the broader FST team including junior engineers (train the trainer) or to users directly on an as-need basis
    • Provide content for and feedback on technical user documentation for mapping system solutions for global use
    • Provide third level engineering support when end-users encounter problems and monitor responses from other team members
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvements of current products, engineering designs, systems and processes
    • Collaborate with cross functional groups, including peer engineering teams, to define and implement tools, technology and platform requirements.
    • Ability to model analytic trends for hardware and software life cycle, regression tests, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) to improve product engineering across function.
    • Maintain a 95% up time for the entire HT fleet.

    Who are you?

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, GIS/Geography or related technology field.
    • Work Experience:  minimum 5+ years management experience with 5+ years working with real time computer vision systems, avionics or automotive computer systems;
    • Advanced knowledge of cutting edge computer and computer vision hardware, Windows and Linux Operating Systems, and associated tools for product development and troubleshooting.
    • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, and ability to develop and recommend innovative solutions to problems.
    • Attention to detail, good organizational skills, commitment to team work and excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with users and managers, and to work in a collaborative team environment and monitor regional needs.
    • Understanding of IP networks and network routing and how they are used in multi-sensor camera or LiDAR based mapping systems; including but not limited to GigE, Firewire, USB3 or similar technologies.
    • Experience with modern software development practices, including Agile, software requirement based development and integrated system testing.
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 25%).
