What's the role?

HERE Technologies is a data company, and laws and regulations on data privacy vary between countries and they are constantly changing. The Privacy Manager II – EMEA Privacy Lead will act as strategic business partner and subject matter leader to the company in supporting the building, implementing and maintaining of the global privacy program to reflect applicable regulatory requirements and to meet highest maturity standards. The EMEA Privacy Lead acts as an individual contributor providing the best privacy advice and solutions to enable strategic initiatives, supporting the broader global privacy team. 


The principle role of the EMEA Privacy Lead is to take the lead on region-specific data protection advice and assurance across the business which will involve liaison with many areas of HERE Technologies, particularly all business units and support functions such as Legal, HR, etc. He/she will be involved in the maintenance and improvement of the HERE Technologies global privacy program, provision of advice and guidance, and support of other HERE Technologies staff involved in data protection compliance. Once fully operational the EMEA Privacy Lead will be responsible for ensuring that HERE Technologies is fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as HERE’s appointed GDPR Data Protection Officer.



  • Participate as a regional leader and subject matter expert within the Global Privacy Team, reporting to the Head of Privacy, with key responsibilities in monitoring, tracking, and advising regarding EMEA region data protection and privacy regulations.
  • Support building, implementing and maintaining the global privacy program, including privacy strategy, accountability tools, and privacy requirements, to effectively mitigate privacy risks on a global level with a particular focus on the EMEA region.
  • Where appointed, act as Data Protection Officer (in accordance with Article 37-39 GDPR, Section 38 of the German Data Protection Amendment Act and other applicable local laws) of HERE Technologies and of all further HERE Technologies entities in the European Union and European Economic Area. Responsibility as Data Protection Officer include:
    • Informing HERE Technologies and its employees processing personal data of their obligations under the GDPR and other relevant data protection provisions (both EU and Member State level);
    • To monitor compliance with the GDPR, other relevant data protection provisions and appropriate internal protection policies;
    • To advise and participate in Data Protection Impact Assessments (both in individual assessments and safeguard advisory where appropriate, and regarding the methodology used) and monitor their performance;
    • Acting as the point of contact for, cooperating, and consulting with, data protection authorities on issues related to processing of personal data, including prior consultations with the data protection authority where necessary;
    • Where necessary, acting as a contact point for data subjects on all issues related to the processing of their data and their rights under the GDPR;
    • Defining the means of processing when working jointly with other controllers or with processors;
    • Advising and assisting with implementation to ensure that the requirements of Article 30 GDPR are taken into account in HERE Technologies’ records of processing activities.
  • Act as a key contributor to the team of privacy experts supporting HERE Technologies´ products and services, IT and HR functions and drive premium privacy advice for HERE Technologies in strong cooperation with the Head of Privacy and Global Privacy Counsel.
  • Support creation and implementation of global privacy policies, notices and statements, standards, requirements procedures and patterns, with a focus on EMEA regulatory requirements.
  • Along with broader response teams, participate in security and data breach incident response, as well as supporting related incident management processes;
  • Integrate privacy by design and privacy by default, particularly by supporting integration of privacy into HERE Technologies´ products and support engineering as part of their development activities;
  • Actively drive and follow-up on the implementation, assessment, correction and evolution of privacy in HERE Technologies´ products;
  • Identify gaps in existing policies and processes, particularly with regard to EMEA regulatory requirements, and take proactive action to address them;
  • Support a high standard of global privacy awareness measures and trainings, particularly with regard to EMEA regulatory content;
  • Inform and advise HERE Technologies, the Leadership Team, other senior managers and the employees who carry out processing of their obligations under the GDPR and other applicable data protection laws;
  • Provide HERE Technologies´ Head of Privacy and Compliance Function with updates on HERE Technologies´ data protection compliance, key risks as well as noteworthy trends with respect to EMEA regulatory requirements, particularly including the GDPR. Provide HERE Technologies´ Privacy Owner with regular reports on HERE Technologies´ privacy compliance, key risks as well as noteworthy trends within the EMEA region.
  • Together with Head of Privacy and Global Privacy Counsel, liaise with HERE Technologies´ Government Relations and standardization functions to properly address data protection matters both in areas of upcoming regulatory frameworks or applicable standards;
  • Maintain up to date privacy expertise, skills and competences.

Who are you?

  • University degree, preferably in engineering, IT or law.
  • Extensive data protection or related compliance experience, combined with a recognized data protection qualification.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ overall experience and minimum of 5 years’ experience of working substantially on data protection.
  • CIPP/E and CIPM certification preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of the GDPR.
  • Experience in implementing privacy programs, applying data privacy to operations and developing practical solutions for complex privacy issues.
