The Here New Initiatives team delivers cutting edge software applications and products, building products atop Here’s high-definition maps to deliver value to our customers. We design and build products that provide real-time data, built on streaming architectures and using the latest tools and practices, while continuously learning and striving to do better.

As a Lead Engineer on the team, you will play a key role on a creating and nimble engineering team delivering a new full-stack B2B product and provide technical leadership to junior members of the team.

Day to day, this would involve: 

• Build sophisticated fault-tolerant distributed services in scala and full-functioned frontend applications in angular
• Participate in all states of the development lifecycle
• Continuously refine our delivery process to speed solutions to our customers
• Recommend and adopt the latest technologies, tools, methods, and processes, introducing the rest of us to tomorrow’s best solutions
• Mentor and guide other engineers
• Provide technical design and architecture for various features 
• Lead other team members in sub-projects to further our business goals

Programming chops

• Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent experience, with 7+ years experience in developing software
• Deep experience and expertise in scala
• Spark, Flink, Kafka, or other high-volume, low-latency technologies
• Excellent coding skills, with the drive to learn and apply new technologies
• Clear evidence of modern product-development skills: microservices, Rest/GraphQL, multiple levels of testing (unit, component, end-to-end)

Build, deploy, deliver, repeat

• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker, AWS CloudFormation)
• Adept at implementing CI/CD, along with the full gamut of product delivery know-how: builds, releases, monitoring, log-sleuthing, support, etc.

Leadership

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring other engineers
• Demonstrated experience producing technical designs to solve complex problems

Extra Credit

Some or all of the following would be pretty sweet, if you brought them to the table:

• Frontend-friendly: JavaScript, typescript, angular, react, CSS…
• Command line prowess; adept at writing command line scripts; customized dev environments
• Demonstrated experience leading other engineers
• Demonstrated experience producing technical designs to solve complex problems
