What's the role?

As a lead GIS Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the next generation of spatial data processing at HERE. You will work with a variety of spatial and non-spatial data sources including Repetitive Sources, APIs, and RSD Sensor Data, to design, build, and operate advanced data integration pipelines. Acting as a technical project owner, you’ll help drive the evolution of HERE’s Unified Map Maintenance and AI-driven source processing ecosystem.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and operate spatial data pipelines: Design, develop, and optimize robust data engineering pipelines that transform and integrate spatial and non-spatial sources into HERE map databases and downstream products.
  • Lead Gen3/Symphony attribute automation: Own and scale attribute automation workflows (e.g., map matching, comparison logic, confidence scoring, auto coding) to increase automation levels and reduce end-to-end latency from detection to map update.
  • Drive IMP Data Preparation and transition readiness: Act as a domain and implementation expert to support the transition of attribute processing into IMP, aligning flow design, interfaces, and operational standards across teams.
  • Enable Unified Context Store and cross-referencing: Collaborate with Analytics and AI Engineering to develop components that support semantic integration, cross-source validation, and confidence indexing for spatial content.
  • Operational excellence and quality in-line: Monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve data conversions, bulk updates, and system performance; implement checks/alerts/metrics to raise data quality and operational reliability.
  • Advance AI-native workflows: Contribute to Agentic AI evolution by developing pipelines that reason over spatial content, detect change, and trigger automated downstream actions with measurable quality outcomes.

Who are you?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent field.

  • 8+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer.

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL.

  • Experience with GIS/spatial processing tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, FME).

  • Experience integrating data across databases and APIs (Oracle, PostGIS, file geodatabases).

  • Cloud fundamentals, preferably AWS (S3, Lambda, SNS, SQS).

  • Engineering best practices (Git/GitLab, CI/CD, code reviews, documentation).

  • A quality and observability mindset (validation, monitoring, KPIs).

  • Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Domain knowledge in map maintenance/traffic signs and an interest in AI automation (or the ability to ramp up quickly).

  • Technical ownership and project execution skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

What Do We Offer?

  • Work on the development of large-scale services, serving and storing petabytes of data
  • Work with cutting-edge, modern technologies
  • A great work-life balance
  • Flexible working hours
  • Competitive salary plus bonus
