You will lead & contribute to content and coverage expansion projects while safeguarding the quality and consistency of our databases through our robust validation framework. You will be actively engaged in operations engineering activities and act as a solution architect representative for the region.
Your main responsibilities include:
- Ensure the compliance of the database with the digitizing and attributing rules (for core map) and/or other appropriate database/product specifications (for additional content).
- Ensure that the database/product is consistent in terms of quality and content.
- Act as the principal point of contact for the data product and distribution delivery process and act as the liaison between Product Management, Technical Customer Support, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders.
- Make significant contributions to process improvement initiatives to increase the quality and speed of our service.
- Perform data analysis in support of the new map-making architecture.
One of the most important aspects of any digital map is its database. At HERE, this component of our map is managed by a world class expert,governed by Governance & Validation team ,made up of spatial database champions. This team is now looking for a Database Engineer to manage Turkey projects. This role will be located in Turkey (Istanbul).
About The Role :
As a Database Engineer, you will be responsible to deliver database releases and to ensure that our data quality meets the product specification and market needs.
You will lead & contribute to content and coverage expansion projects while safeguarding the quality and consistency of our databases through our robust validation framework. You will be actively engaged in operations engineering activities and partner management.
- Ensure the compliance of the database with the digitizing and attributing rules and/or other appropriate database/product specifications.
- Ensure that the database/product is consistent in terms of quality and content.
- Act as the principal point of contact for quality delivery process and act as the liaison between Product Management, Engineering and our joint venture partners.
- Make significant contributions to process improvement initiatives to increase quality and speed of our service.
- Perform data analysis in support of the new map-making architecture.
- Actively collaborate to success of one SDE (Spatial Data Engineering & Analytics) team.
The GIS Data Engineer supports on the design, execution and improvements of complex integration processes, mentoring junior team-members and in certain cases, possibly having a limited number of direct reports, but always having passion for data.
- Bachelor or master's degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or equivalent
- 2/3+ years of software development experience, Excellent applied skills in Python and/or Scala programming, in combination with backend architectures and fast API frameworks
- Cloud Experience (AWS/Azure)
- Strong and applied experience in REST based web service technologies, JSON and XML and good knowledge in extraction/scraping data using API, HTML, Selenium ,Python caller and HTTPCaller & good hands on knowledge of Scala.
- Strong and applied DBMS & SQL skills, with a strong preference on PostgreSQL / PostGIS
- Strong and applied AWS skills (EC2, S3, RDS,Athena), as well as experience with virtualization tools like Docker
- Strong experience CI/CD tools, with a preference on Jenkins
- Good knowledge of using issue tracking tools (e.g., JIRA), code collaboration tools (e.g., Git/GitLab) and team collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence/Wiki).
- Good knowledge of Linux/Unix - familiar with shell scripting
- Able to translate business and architectural features into quality, consistent software design
- Strong quality mindset is considered a must: unit testing, performance testing, writing testable code
The GIS Data Engineer supports on the design, execution and improvements of complex integration processes, mentoring junior team-members and in certain cases, possibly having a limited number of direct reports, but always having passion for data.
- Independently lead and execute complex data engineering projects, design new end-to-end processes for the conversion and use of external digital sources in the creation and maintenance of the HERE databases and related products
- Leverage data engineering technologies like FME, ArcGIS, Python, SQL, Visio, QGIS and others to transform and integrate complex data, or create products
- Ability to assess and manage risks of complex bulk integration efforts, realizing that as data amounts are high, risks are high.
- Provide extensive GIS and spatial data consultancy within the DEO, when needed, especially focused on bulk source integration efforts and process improvements.
- Independently identify improvement and innovation opportunities and when applicable, drive them into the organization, dealing with possible resistance on the way.
- Lead and participate in departmental and cross-functional projects, which will help to increase efficiency, quality and/or reduce costs within DEO Group. Apply influence within group.
- Maturing engineering and consultancy mindset with focus on value and cost efficiency. Deliver what is needed as end result (not necessarily what was requested at the beginning).
- Design and apply technology in strategic and tactical ways to improve GIS Data Engineering processes, tools and scope. Use experience to recommend improvements for existing processes and tools.
- Develop broad experience of projects and processes; re-engineer new process workflows within PDE , P&GP and DEO if needed.
